– Welcome Volunteers –
WhisperSom Corporation is developing a new treatment option for those who snore and/or have Sleep Apnea, whether Obstructive, Central, or Mixed.
As part of the development process we need to test the effectiveness of our newest sleep software, named “Whispers Without Waking”. Particularly, we are testing if version PoC 2.5L of our sleep software can accurately detect apneas and end them in less than 20 seconds while maintaining blood oxygen saturation levels (SpO2) above 88%, without awakening the user.
We also want to tune the detection and stimulus parameters of our software.
Please go to the home page of our website to look at our vision for the finished product and to learn how it works.
We are testing what is referred to as a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) platform, not a finished product. This version of the PoC is named “2.5L” and relies on a lap top computer to run our detection and treatment algorithms, as well as to record all of the data for research and development to refine the algorithms. While the microphone sensor for the 2.5L is wired to the lap top, the finished product will have a wireless connection of the microphone to the device.
We are seeking volunteers of any gender who are-
- Willing to be tethered to a computer during the night (a microphone and earpiece/earphones)
- Willing to wear a pulse oximeter. There is a picture of the test equipment below. (We will not take your picture.)
The test protocol lasts for five (5) nights, depending on each volunteer’s sleep schedule.
Because we need to train volunteers on the use of the PoC 2.5L, they must live in the proximity of Annapolis, Maryland or Groton, Massachusetts.
We are seeking volunteers who are comfortable with computers; are medically able; who have been diagnosed with some variant of Sleep Apnea; and have had their physician recommend the use of a CPAP (BiPAP, APAP).

What do volunteers get? In addition to our undying gratitude, volunteers will receive the production products, if they want, for as long as they like.

- A suitable volunteer will be asked to fill out an information form and an initial Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) form.
- Volunteers will undergo two (2) nights of evaluation with the test equipment in the “Passive” (record only) mode, wherein no audio stimulus is delivered. We do this to establish baselines of physiological data. In particular, we are recording the number and length of apneas and blood oxygen saturation levels, to which we can compare the efficacy of the test equipment in the “Active-Passive” mode, wherein stimuli may be delivered. For this reason, the pulse oximeter must be worn throughout the test nights.
- The next three consecutive nights will have the volunteer use the test equipment in its’ Active-Passive mode and of course, wearing the pulse oximeter.
- Each morning, volunteers fill out a very simple log of how they slept that night.
- At the end of the test week volunteers will be asked to fill out another ESS form.
